Skala Eressos & Sappho of Lesvos
For those that don't know, both the terms "sapphic" and "lesbian" come from a single woman. A Greek poet named Sappho, from the island of Lesvos (or Lesbos), was a woman who wrote love poems about other women. Thus her name and her home became a kind of code word for women who loved other women.
When Amber and I were talking about where we would like to go for our honeymoon we joked about how funny it would be to "return to the motherland," but then we actually looked it up... It turns out that the isle of Lesvos is a beautiful and welcoming travel destination! We even found that Skala Eressos, the birthplace of Sappho, in particular caters to tourism from the international lesbian community. Suddenly we realized... it wasn't a joke anymore.
So! We're grown people. We own a house, we have a full kitchen and nice sheets and towels (and we are rather picky). But neither of us have ever been to Europe so we've decided to create a Honey Fund! While you are welcome to give us any gift you like or contribute a check or cash, you can also use Honey Fund to gift us specific experiences like fancy meals, traditional bath house visits, a travel agent, or upgrading our flight.
We appreciate the kind of gifts that money can't buy. Handmade art and goods from our loved ones is something we cherish. Quilts, paintings, knitted gloves, things that are made from the heart. We love to fill our home with beautiful and lovingly crafted things.
